An Interview with Henry Freeman

What do you do for Liberum Wealth?

I'm an Executive Director at Liberum Wealth, a provider of bespoke custody, securities trading and FX solutions for families, individuals, companies, funds and investment managers. We're a subsidiary of London-based independent investment bank and institutional broking house, Liberum, where I have worked for the last ten years.

I've been building this business for the last two years and work with fiduciaries, trust companies, lawyers and other advisers as well as the underlying clients themselves so that they get the best possible service and benefit from institutional pricing when buying, selling and holding investments globally.

What do you love most about your role?

I think the biggest privilege of this job is meeting so many interesting people from all manner of different backgrounds and hearing their stories and experiences through life. I also enjoy being challenged and finding the right solutions for our clients and prospective clients

How has your business adapted in light of COVID-19?

Due to our global client base and how we already utilised technology, most importantly there was little to no disruption for our clients. Indeed we saw trading volumes increase considerably. The team adapted well and quickly to working from home but since the lockdown in Guernsey ended, we have all been working together back in the office and we have been winning more business by continuing to deliver the high levels of personal service to our clients and partners that we've become known for. We have grown organically and have £750m AUM.

What has been your greatest achievement? Personal or professional.

I am honoured to have been invited to 10 Downing Street on a number of occasions to advise government on investment, fintech and entrepreneurship and great to see that advice work its way into policy.

Why did you join PCD?

A number of my contacts had been recommending I join PCD for a while - it really is the best networking group for those in the private client and family office sector. The quality of members, events and now webinars are always top notch and the ever helpful team at PCD are a joy to work with.

Have you attended a PCD webinar? What did you think?

Yes, I've attended a few. I was initially cynical - I'm sure we've all been on webinars that have been too focused on the hard sell or have simply been poorly put together or boring but the PCD team have worked hard to create truly interactive events with interesting topics and content led by professionals who know what they're talking about. Despite now suffering from an amount of webinar-fatigue, I do still tune into relevant PCD events but I am truly looking forward to their next real world event!

On a weekend, I am most likely found...

Wading in Guernsey's model yacht-pond helping to coach the next generation of young sailors (including my daughter), ferrying said daughter to hockey on a Sunday morning (bacon sarnies with the other parents are the highlight), taking a dip in the sea, relaxing with my wife and partaking in good food and drink with friends and family at Guernsey's many fine restaurants and hostelries… oh and taking care of whatever DIY around the house I didn't finfish from the previous weekend!
