Interview with Karen Methold

What do you do for Rooks Rider?

I lead the Wealth Planning team, where we cater to the full spectrum of traditional private client needs of individuals. Our services range from drafting Wills and setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney to administering estates and executing complex tax planning. We have particular expertise in the international arena, including advising overseas Trustees. The offshore component has been my personal specialty since I qualified, and approximately 90% of my work involves some form of international element.

What do you love most about your role?

I love the fact that I get to meet such interesting people; fellow professionals and clients alike.  I love being involved in peoples' lives and providing solutions to matters which are important to them; whether that is resolving a complex tax problem or simply making sure the right people inherit the family wealth.  I also enjoy the technical challenge that the role presents with the ever changing tax rules and the ever increasing complexity.

What have been your greatest achievement?

This is probably staying at the same firm for the entirety of my career since starting as an "Articled Clerk" in 1986.  I sometimes joke about the fact that if you cut me in half, I would have the words Rooks Rider running through me like a stick of rock.  On a serious note, I act for some families that I have known ever since I qualified and that is really rather special.

Why has your company joined PCD Club?

David and his team do an amazing job and provide great networking opportunities at very enjoyable events; PCD also provides a platform for learning about different aspects of the industry.  This helps to boost our knowledge in areas that we would not normally be involved in and enables us to introduce clients to service providers in areas complementary to those in which we practice.

On a weekend, you'll usually find me...

You will usually find me walking the hills; whether that be the Chilterns close to home or, when the opportunity presents itself, the fells up in the Lake District.  We are working our way through the "Wainwrights" up in the Lakes and enjoy walking some of the national trails such as the Thames Path.  I am also rather partial to a nice glass of chilled white burgundy or a glass of fizz.
