Interview with Michael Giraud, Head of Standard Bank’s International Fiduciary Services, Jersey

What does your company do

Standard Bank is Africa’s largest bank by assets, with a 160-year track record of operational excellence and value. The group has been establishing and administering fiduciary structures for over 100 years and provides fiduciary services across five jurisdictions.  

Our award-winning international fiduciary services, offered from Jersey and Mauritius, include private client, corporate, and family office services. Spearheaded by a team of directors with an average of 26 years’ experience, including Citywealth’s Trustee of the Year 2023 (CI and IOM), our team of over 60 dedicated fiduciary staff includes an integrated business risk management team, supported in addition by the Group’s legal, risk, compliance, IT, marketing, HR, and facilities teams.  

How can you help PCD members

We are proud of our increasingly unique fiduciary offering, combining the strength and depth of Africa’s largest bank by assets with the flexibility of a boutique fiduciary provider, using the entire market to bank and invest assets. We understand that each family’s needs and circumstances are unique, so each structure that we create or administer is bespoke. As a business, we have extensive expertise in establishing, managing, and administering complex and bespoke offshore fiduciary structures for families and corporates with African and/or UK connections and a global geographic and economic footprint. 

Why did you donate to this campaign

Standard Bank actively supports a number of causes, and our teams also arrange various initiatives during the course of the year to support different organisations locally and in Africa. This campaign therefore completely aligns with our own values. The Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital does amazing work and we are delighted for the opportunity to support such a worthy cause. Seeing David in his cycle shorts (as opposed to the usual colourful trousers) was only a bonus!

What should the PCD team do next for Charity sponsors

There are so many very worthy causes out there, and we believe that charitable work and efforts should align with your personal beliefs and purpose. With Christmas just around the corner, we will all have many opportunities to do some more good around us before the year ends.
