An Interview with Alan Kitcher

What do you do for Thomson Snell & Passmore?

As Head of Trust Management, I advise trustees and executors, as well as beneficiaries of trusts and estates. I have particular expertise in working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, families and their businesses, as well as charities and charitable foundations.

I am a qualified chartered accountant, and as part of my role advise clients on their personal tax liabilities, including their exposure to inheritance tax and capital gains tax

What do you love most about your role?

There are two things that really stand out to me. The first is the sheer variety of my role. I really enjoy speaking to and helping a wide range of people. The second is the long-lasting relationships I am able to build with clients.

How has your business adapted in light of COVID-19?

I joined the firm during the pandemic and was immediately impressed with how they had pivoted to working from home so seamlessly. Being inducted virtually was a first for me, but the experience was really positive and that is testament to the firm’s supportive and progressive culture. The feedback from clients has also been good and again I think this is in large part due to the culture but also our use of innovative technology.

What has been your greatest achievement? Personal or professional.

From a professional point of view I would say it is the fact that despite not taking the ‘traditional’ route of attending university, I have worked my way up, first qualifying as an accountant, then being listed as one of ePrivate Client’s 35 under 35 and finally to my current position as Head of Trust Management at such a prestigious and well respected firm.

Why did you join PCD?

I have been a member of PCD for some time now and find it so valuable for its wide network, reach and variety of contacts and great events, both from a UK and international perspective.

Have you attended a PCD webinar? What did you think?

I have not attended a webinar yet, but I did recently attend a really great in person PCD hosted dinner in September 2021. I am also looking forward to attending a webinar next year if I can.

On a weekend, I am most likely found...

Outdoors! Either playing golf or walking my dog.
