Our East Africa series continues in October with a discussion on Succession Planning & Wealth Structuring for HNW East African families. The discussion will feature international tax, legal and wealth management consideration for the transmission of wealth within families. It will discuss the implications for the transition of wealth where the residence of family members and their investment are of an international nature.

The session will be moderated by:

Mark Tucker - Global Head of Wealth Advisory, Barclays Private Bank, London. Mark leads a team of 15 International Wealth Advisors based in London, Geneva and India. Mark and his team work alongside Private Bankers across all geographies and markets to assist clients with their complex cross border estate planning needs.

Mark has spent 21 years at Barclays in London, Geneva and the Isle of Man prior to which he worked for an independent Trust Company in Jersey. Mark is a member of the STEP (Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners).

Mona Doshi - Partner, Anjarwalla & Khanna, Kenya. Mona co-heads the firm's private client law practice and the Real Estate and Construction department. Her practice includes advising on succession planning, drafting wills, handling probate matters, advising on onshore and offshore trusts, drafting shareholders' agreements for family businesses, advising on prenuptial agreements, drafting settlement agreements, and advising on real estate matters. She is listed as a 'notable practitioner' and 'as a high- level adviser to wealthy families and entrepreneurs' in the Chambers & Partners (2019) and (2020) HNW guides that ranks lawyers with experience in handling private wealth matters.

Mona is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, qualified with LLB (Hons) from University of Reading and completed the LPC at College of Law, Guildford, England.

Nadja Weber - Wealth Planning/Business Development, SwissIndependent Trustees SA, Kenya and Israel. Nadja is in charge of wealth planning and business development for SwissIndependent Trustees SA, an independent trust company based in Geneva Switzerland, with offices and representation in Malta, South Africa, Kenya and Israel. She specialises in advising HNW clients based in Kenya/greater East Africa and Israel, with focus on entrepreneur families, first generation/tech entrepreneurs, illiquid asset-heavy multi-jurisdictional families that require complex future-focused planning, as well as pre-aliyah structuring.

With high-quality networks throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, Israel, Europe, the U.S. and the Middle East, Nadja has a prowess to provide sophisticated solutions in collaboration with fellow industry specialists.

Chris Moorcroft - Partner, Harbottle & Lewis, London. Chris advises individuals and families on wealth structuring and succession matters. This includes the use of vehicles such as companies, trusts and foundations to hold assets and pass wealth and family businesses to younger generations, to protect wealth from third parties and to manage cross-border tax problems involving multiple jurisdictions.

A significant element of his expertise involves advising UK and international high net worth individuals who are resident, investing or spending time in the UK on how to structure their assets. The majority of his work is international, with a major component from the US and Africa.
